Monday Musings: The Waterfall Approach For Planning Content Across Platforms & Mediums
How I balance snackable social media content & long form legacy content
Welcome to the first official Monday Musings edition! So glad you’re here.
Today we’re taking a peek into my weekly content planning process system. I’m not like most content creators when it comes to content planning. In fact, I don’t even start by thinking about content.
I use a method I call - The Waterfall Approach where a single idea at the top of the stream can cascade down into a powerful stream of content for multiple platforms & mediums.
It all starts with a single legacy idea at the top.
Then I divide my content into three levels:
Legacy Content - Content that gets traction over time (think newsletter, youtube, SEO content on your website).
Signature Content - Short-form content for one platform that you are focusing on building right now (for me that’s Twitter).
Secondary Content - Also short-form content. But these are my up-and-coming platforms.
When you’re first starting out as a creator, writing on social media platforms is important - it gets you quick distribution of your ideas and builds up your audience. But the longer you’re in the game - the more risky that gets.
So you need to play both the short game on social media platforms and the long game with legacy content. Eventually, your legacy content will start to work on auto-pilot and you won’t need as much activity on social media.
But how do you do that without going crazy and feeling like a content machine pumping out content constantly?
You work exclusively on your legacy content at the top & let that trickle down to easily become signature+secondary content. Here’s How It Works…
